Product Information

Dawn of Empire is an engaging game focused on the naval side of the 1898 Spanish - American War in the Atlantic. It portrays the conflict strategically, using simple and quick - to - play systems instead of complex mechanisms. The game offers a fun way to get a broad view of the historical events. In February 1895, Spain's suspension of constitutional rights in Cuba led to a revolt. Captain General Weyler's harsh retaliatory measures, like concentration camps, outraged the American press and public. The explosion of the USS Maine in Havana Harbour on February 15, 1898, with 268 U.S. naval personnel killed, further escalated tensions. The American press accused Spain of treachery, and a Naval Court of Inquiry implied Spanish involvement. The U.S. declared war on Spain shortly after. For the U.S. player, the goal is to control sea areas off the U.S. Atlantic coast and the Caribbean, stop Spanish support for their islands, and destroy Spanish naval forces. The Spanish player aims to disrupt U.S. sea control, hold sea control near the Spanish coast, and take out U.S. naval forces. Both players deploy naval resources on the map to earn victory points for controlled areas, blockades, and destroyed enemy units at the end of each turn.

To play this game, first decide whether you'll be the U.S. or Spanish player. The U.S. player should focus on getting control of sea areas around the U.S. Atlantic coast and the Caribbean Sea. Try to stop the Spanish from supporting their island holdings and look for chances to destroy their naval forces. The Spanish player should work on disrupting U.S. sea control and keeping control of areas near the Spanish coastline. Aim to destroy U.S. naval forces as well. When it's your turn, deploy your naval resources to the sea areas on the map. You'll earn victory points at the end of each turn for areas you control, areas you've blockaded, and for any enemy units you've destroyed. Remember, this is a game about the historical Spanish - American naval war, so enjoy learning about the history while you play. Keep track of your resources and plan your moves carefully. There aren't really any special maintenance requirements for this game, just keep the game pieces in good condition and store them properly when you're not playing.
