Product Information
Paths to Hell (PTH) builds on the 'La Bataille de France, 1940' base rules, introducing new and adapted rules for an exciting new front. The game offers hours of intense battles between infantry, tanks, artillery, and aircraft of the armies in conflict. Notable additions include human wave attacks, battalion officers, communist commissars, recon rules, flamethrower tanks, motorcycle recon, Waffen SS units, Romanian forces, gully terrains, and railroads. It also comes with an 8.5 x 11 chart with multiple overlays. PTH has a moderate complexity and is great for solo play. The system highlights the role of officers, who can activate units, coordinate with others, call for support, influence morale checks, and more. It uses a hybrid system of turns and'real time' based on the 'WE GO' principle. Players activate unit leaders for actions like firing, assaulting, and moving. A turn ends when both players finish their activations. The scale is at the platoon level, with units representing 30 - 40 soldiers, weapons units 3 - 4 weapons and 20 - 25 crew, and AFVs/Transports 3 - 5 vehicles and crews. Scenarios are divided into turns of about 12 - 15 minutes of action, with phases like Command, Initiative, Activation, and Marker Removal. The game uses isomorphic mapboards that can be combined in countless ways to create any terrain, including player - designed scenarios, with each map hex representing 150 - 200 metres.
To play Paths to Hell, start by setting up the isomorphic mapboards in your desired terrain configuration. You can create your own scenarios or use the pre - made ones. Place the units on the map according to the scenario rules. Each unit represents a group of soldiers, weapons, or vehicles as described. During the game, take turns activating unit leaders to perform actions like moving, firing, or assaulting. Remember that officers play a key role in coordinating and calling for support. The turn ends when both players have completed all their activations. Each turn is divided into different phases, so follow the sequence carefully. When handling the mapboards and units, be gentle to avoid damage. Store the game components in a dry and safe place to keep them in good condition. Also, make sure to read through the new rules and additions thoroughly before starting to play to fully understand the gameplay.
