Players take on the roles of alien races and gods from H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos. The game is large - scale and comes with 64 figurines of cultists, monsters, aliens, and Great Old Ones, ranging from about 20 mm to nearly 180 mm in height. Set on an Earth map, each player represents one of four base - game factions. At turn start, gather power. Then, in action rounds, spend power on tasks like recruiting cultists, moving units, battling, summoning monsters, building gates, casting spells, and awakening your Great Old One. When power runs out, the action phase ends and a new turn begins. Victory is achieved by reaching 30 points on the Doom Track, but only if you've unlocked all six spell books. Strategy involves expanding your power base and completing six tasks to get your faction's spell books. Each faction has unique monsters, spell books, and special abilities, with different requirements for spell - book acquisition. Multiple strategies are available for all factions.
