Players step into the roles of alien races and gods from H. P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos. Each player represents one of the four base - game factions. At the start of a turn, gather power. Then, in a series of action rounds, spend this power on tasks like recruiting cultists, moving units, battling, summoning monsters, building gates, casting spells, and awakening your Great Old One. When players run out of power, the action phase ends, and the next turn begins. Victory is achieved by scoring 30 points on the Doom Track and unlocking all six spell books. The strategy involves expanding your power base and completing six tasks to get your faction's spell books. Each faction has unique monsters, spell books, and special abilities, and different requirements for spell - book acquisition. Multiple strategies are available for all factions. The base game supports 2 - 4 players (the map can handle 5), and with expansions, it can support up to 8 players.
