To start playing Age of Rome: Emperor, first, each player gets a hero along with their own player board. You'll also receive secret quests and starting resources like Denarii, Followers, Scheme tokens, Legions, and Votes. The game has nine rounds, and each round has four phases. In the Scheme phase, an Event card is revealed, the turn order is set, and you activate your Schemes one by one. During the Building phase, it's time to build structures in the provinces assigned to you on the rotating board. The Action phase is when you place your Followers to take actions. And in the Income phase, you get your income and the Provinces board is adjusted. To win, try to earn as many Glory Points as possible. You can do this by building structures, using your Followers to vote and get a majority, sending your Legions to conquer regions, trading or collecting items, and building a Pantheon. Completing your secret quests also earns you extra points. After nine rounds, the player with the most Glory Points becomes the new Emperor of Rome.
