In Maui, both locals and tourists flock to the beach. They search for the perfect spot to lay their towels and soak in the beautiful view of the Hawaiian ocean. In this engaging board game, your goal is to place beach - goers on your sand to form attractive patterns. Position their towels near the ocean or under the shade of trees or umbrellas to score the most points, but be careful, getting too close can be risky. Your beach board has space for 13 towels arranged in seven rows. At the start, randomly place eight umbrellas on the board. Each player puts one random towel in the left - most column. These towels feature three different patterns. Six random tiles and one sand dollar are placed in each of the two market rows. On your turn, you can either take all the sand dollars from a market row or pick a towel. Towels cost 0, 1, or 2 sand dollars. When placing a towel, match at least one pattern with the right - most towel on your board, aiming for as many matches as possible. For each match, move the pattern's scoring marker 1 - 3 spaces on the scoreboard. Score more points if the towel is closer to the ocean or shade, but avoid placing part of the towel outside the play area to prevent penalties. Covering an umbrella earns you a bonus, like advancing a scoring marker or getting pearls. When a towel is placed in the final column, the round ends. The player with the most points from patterns, pearls, and leftover sand dollars wins. You can also flip the board to play with sand crabs. Covering a crab with a towel will cost you points and that pattern. This game is suitable for 2 - 4 players, takes about 30 minutes to play, and is for ages 8 and up.
