In the Pandemic board game, multiple deadly diseases have erupted worldwide at once! You and other players step into the shoes of disease - fighting experts. Your goal is to treat disease hotspots and find cures for four plagues before they spiral out of control. The game board shows major population centers on Earth. Each turn, you can take up to four actions like traveling between cities, treating the infected, finding a cure, or building a research station. The card deck gives you these powers, but there are also Epidemic! cards that speed up and worsen the disease situation. Another deck controls the normal spread of infections. Each player has a unique role. You need to plan strategies that match your specialist's skills to beat the diseases. For example, the Operations Expert can build research stations, which are crucial for finding cures and enabling easy travel between cities. The Scientist can cure a disease with just four cards of that type instead of five. But beware, the diseases are spreading fast and time is limited. If one or more diseases get out of hand or too much time passes, you lose. Cure all four diseases, and you win! The 2013 edition adds two new characters, the Contingency Planner and the Quarantine Specialist, not seen in earlier versions.
To play the Pandemic board game, first, set up the game board with the depicted major population centers. Shuffle the two card decks: one for player abilities and actions and the other for normal disease spread. Each player takes on a unique role like the Operations Expert or the Scientist. At the start of your turn, you can use up to four actions. You can travel between cities to reach disease hotspots, treat the infected populations, discover cures, or build research stations. Remember, the Epidemic! cards in the action deck can make the disease situation worse, so be prepared. The goal is to cure all four diseases before they spread too far. If you're the Operations Expert, focus on building research stations as they're key for finding cures and moving around. As the Scientist, look for four cards of a particular disease to cure it quicker. Keep an eye on the disease spread; if it gets out of control or time runs out, you lose. After each game, make sure to put the cards back in their decks and store the game in a dry place to keep it in good condition.
