To play Defenders of The Wild, first, choose one of the four unique factions. Then, start assembling your crew by drawing defender cards that match your chosen faction and habitat types. Each card has an animal character that allows you to perform different actions on the modular hex map. The actions include moving your characters, clearing pollution left by the machines, fighting mechs, building camps, and healing. The machine deck controls how the machines expand and develop on the board. As the game progresses, the machines will build factories and send out hunter mechs, leaving behind walls and pollution. Your goal is to build all your camps and rewild the machines' factories before the last factory is built. If you achieve this, all players win together.
