Board Game Geek Rating: 6.78. Board Game Geek Avg Player Rating: 7.92. This retail edition of Arkwright lets 2 to 4 players run up to four factories in 18th - century England. The main goal is to own the most valuable block of shares. To achieve this, you'll need to increase share value and buy shares from the bank. You'll need workers to run the factories. Hiring workers creates demand. Replace expensive workers (wage 2 - 5) with machines (cost 1). Increase factory output by hiring new workers or upgrading the factory's technical level. During an action round, set the price for your goods. Improve factories, quality, and do sales promotion to boost your chances of selling. Each player has action tokens like 'build and modernize factories', 'employ new workers', etc. Place a token on the 'Administration board' and pay 2 - 10 (odd numbers) in administration costs. Some actions are more effective based on the cost you pay. After each action round, pay for workers and machines in active factories, then sell products. Share value rises for sold products and high - quality output. You can trade goods to colonies by ship if you have an East Indian Company monopoly contract. After four turns per factory, the round ends. Remove action tokens, reveal an event token. After 5 rounds, the player with the most valuable share block wins. You can choose different strategies: maximize output from all four factories, focus on two, use shipping, or target the home market. React to opponents' strategies. There's a 120 - minute 'Spinning Jenny' version for beginners and a 240 - minute 'Waterframe' version for full - fledged strategy lovers. To start playing Arkwright, gather 2 to 4 players. Each player gets a set of action tokens. Your main aim is to own the most valuable block of shares at the end of 5 rounds. First, set up the factories and the 'Administration board'. When it's your turn, pick an action token and place it on a free space on the 'Administration board'. Pay the administration cost (2 - 10, odd numbers). Remember, paying more for some actions can make them more effective. You'll need workers to run the factories. Hiring workers creates demand for your products. Try to replace expensive workers with machines to save costs. Set the price of your goods during an action round. Improve your factories, quality, and do some sales promotion to sell more. After each action round, pay for the workers and machines in the active factories, then sell the products. Your share value will increase if you sell products and maintain high quality. You can trade goods to colonies by ship, but you need a contract with the East Indian Company monopoly. After four turns for each factory, end the round. Remove the action tokens from the board and reveal an event token. Don't worry too much about having the most shares or the highest share value alone; it's about having the most valuable block of shares. If you're new, start with the 120 - minute 'Spinning Jenny' version to get familiar with the game. For a more strategic experience, try the 240 - minute 'Waterframe' version. Always keep an eye on your opponents' strategies and adjust yours accordingly. Have fun playing!
