Product Information

Board Game Geek Rating: 6.92, Avg Player Rating: 8.05. Suitable for 2 to 5 players and published in 2016. This retail Conan core board game from Monolith Mythic Games is a scenario - based semi - cooperative asymmetric miniatures game set in Robert E. Howard's Conan universe. One player takes on the role of the Opponent, controlling the Opposition forces, while 1 to 4 players play Conan and his companions like Shevatas, Hadrathus, Belit, and Valeria. The game strictly adheres to Howard's novels and short stories, with a Howard expert ensuring the art and scenarios match his vision. There are various maps such as Pictish Village, Underground temple, Tavern, and Pirate ship, each with multiple scenarios. Games are fast, around an hour, and can be played individually or in a campaign, with a dozen scenarios in the base box. At the start of a scenario, players pick their team. The Opponent gathers relevant miniatures, tokens, and cards. Each scenario has unique objectives. During their turn, heroes can activate or rest. Activating allows them to use 'gems' for actions like moving, fighting, and defending. Resting moves 'gems' from the'spent' to the 'available' pool. Dice - rolling is based on the number of 'gems' used, with different colored dice for different characters. Players can also use equipment cards for bonuses. The Opponent uses a board with slidable tiles and energy gems. Each tile represents a unit, and activating a tile has an energy cost. The Opponent can activate up to two tiles per turn. In most scenarios, heroes aim to achieve an objective, and the Opponent wins if they fail, but some scenarios give the Opponent his own goals. Components include 16 spell cards, 39 equipment cards, 60 tiles (functionally 62), 161 tokens, 8 Hero sheets, 4 player aid sheets, 1 turn counter sheet, 1 Hero rule book, 1 Overlord rulebook with 13 scenarios, 2 map boards, 15 dice, 75 'gems', 25 coloured bases, 106 plastic miniatures, and 1 plastic Overlord board. Using the Conan Core Board Game is a fun adventure. First, decide who will be the Opponent and who will play Conan and his companions. Then, pick a scenario and get ready to set up the game. The Opponent should gather all the miniatures, tokens, and cards related to the chosen scenario. The heroes need to choose their team at the start. During the game, heroes can either activate or rest on their turn. When activating, use 'gems' from your energy pool for actions. Remember, different characters have different colored dice based on their specialties. You can also use equipment cards to get bonuses on your dice rolls. The Opponent should manage the slidable tiles on the board and use energy gems to activate units. Be careful with the energy cost of each tile. Each scenario has different objectives, so make sure you understand what you need to do to win. After the game, store the components properly. Keep the miniatures in a safe place to avoid damage. The cards should be kept in a card protector if possible. If any of the 'gems' or tokens get dirty, you can gently clean them with a soft cloth. That's all you need to know to enjoy this great board game!
