Players journey down the Nile, placing boats to gather resources for building Egypt's famous monuments. With new monuments, cards, and a changing river, this edition is a modern, streamlined update that both long - time fans and new players will enjoy. In Egizia, players place pawns along the Nile moving north. Each placement blocks opponents from the same square (except at monuments where multiple players are okay) and restricts future pawn placements. After placement, players' workers need to be fed with grain from fields. Field production depends on Nile floods, so some fields may not yield grain each turn. If a player lacks enough grain, they can buy it with victory points. Then, stones from quarries are used to build monuments with workers. In the new edition, players can build across the Colonnade. More columns built unlock better powers like placing boats on occupied river spaces or upstream, or getting extra points for placing bricks in monuments. With randomized rewards, the Colonnade adds a new dynamic to the game. Below the Colonnade are the mysterious statues, a new and unique monument. They're cheaper to build but offer high rewards if requirements are met. Players must plan ahead as only one brick can be placed in a statue per round, and each level has tougher end - game bonus requirements.
