The objective is to become the Head Gardener. Collect herb and flower seeds (represented by dice) and use your garden tools (represented by cards) to plant in the community garden and score the most points. Each round, players take turns collecting seeds and tools. You can plant quickly for low - point spots or take a chance and save your seeds for the best spots in the garden.
The game is played over multiple rounds, each with a different Lead Gardener. The game ends when the last Tool Cards are used, and then the final score is calculated.
Each round has three phases:
1. Preparing the Tool Shed: The Lead Gardener of the current round sets up the Tool Cards and Seed Dice.
2. Picking and Planting Seeds: All players take turns, starting with the Lead Gardener and moving clockwise. Each player takes a Tool Card and Seed Dice from the shed, adds seeds to the wheelbarrow, performs special actions, and plants herb and flower seeds.

How to play Herbaceous Sprouts:
