Players step into the shoes of 15th - century French nobles. Your goal is to become the most powerful ruling force in the kingdom by controlling Fief and Bishopric territories. As you gain control, you'll acquire Royal and Ecclesiastical titles, giving your family influence in electing the Pope and King. Strengthen your position through marriage alliances, which bring love, treachery, and deception. This classic French - language game is now re - introduced in English by Academy Games. It features updated rules, new units, a larger and consolidated map, and additional components for an enhanced gameplay experience. The game board depicts a part of the Medieval Kingdom of France. Villages are connected by roads, allowing movement of Lords and Troops. They're grouped into eight Fiefs with different colored backgrounds and five Bishoprics with heavy - bordered outlines. Each player controls up to four male and female noble family members. These members gain power by obtaining Royal and Ecclesiastic Titles. Gain control of all villages in a Fief to become a Baron, Earl, or Duke and earn 1 VP. Titled Lords can participate in the King's election and may even become King, bringing more power and 1 VP to your family. Family members can also pursue Ecclesiastical Titles like Bishop and Cardinal, allowing you to collect tithes from other Fief Lords. The ultimate goal for a clerical family member is to be elected Pope, bringing 1 VP and special privileges. You win the game with 3 VPs. Form alliances through diplomacy and marriage, as a married couple wins with 4 VPs. But beware of event cards. Bounty cards like 'Good Harvest' and 'Good Weather' are beneficial, while Disaster cards such as 'The Plague' and 'Famine' can affect all players in specific Bishoprics. Increase your income by imposing tithes or taxes, and invest in new Fief titles, mills, and city fortifications. Protect your land and castles by purchasing Men at Arms, Knights, and Siege Engines. You can even invade other players' territories, but risk a family member in battle. The Kickstarter Edition includes the Fief: France 1429 Expansions Pack, and 3 - D buildings and metal coins are available from Academy Games. This is the latest edition of Fief, re - implementing previous versions from 1981, 1989, and 2011. At TheGameSteward, we're happy to support campaigns like this.
