Product Information

Board Game Geek Rating: 6.80. Board Game Geek Avg Player Rating: 7.46. This retail edition of Citadels is a 2016 board game for 2 - 8 players. In Citadels, players take on new roles each round as characters they hire to get gold and build buildings. The game ends when a player builds their eighth building. Players then count their points, and the one with the highest score wins. Players start with building cards. Buildings come in five colors, with purple ones having special abilities and others giving benefits for specific characters. Each round, players choose character cards secretly. Each character has a unique ability. On a turn, players earn gold or draw building cards and can build one or up to three buildings. Buildings cost gold based on symbols and are worth points. At the end of the game, players get bonus points for having eight buildings or all five - colored buildings. The 2016 edition has 27 characters (8 original, 10 from Dark City expansion, 9 new) and 30 unique building districts. The rulebook has 6 preset lists for different gameplay styles. We're happy to back campaigns to bring you this game. A portion of your spend on Citadels will go towards backing new games on Kickstarter. Contact us at The Game Steward if you have questions.

To play Citadels, first, each player gets a number of building cards. The game starts with players choosing character cards secretly at the beginning of each round. The player who was king in the previous round starts the card - choosing process. After choosing characters, players take turns. On your turn, you can earn two or more gold or draw two building cards and discard one. Then you can optionally build a building. If you're playing as the architect, you can build up to three buildings. Remember, buildings cost gold according to the number of symbols on them. The game ends when a player builds their eighth building. At the end, count your points from buildings and any bonus points for having eight buildings or all five - colored buildings. Be careful when choosing characters, as each one has a special ability that can change the game based on your and your opponents' situations. There's no special maintenance needed for the game. Just keep the cards in a dry place and avoid bending or damaging them. If you have any purchase questions or need game advice, contact The Game Steward.
